Jeff Rodriguez – Head Varsity Coach

Head Coach Jeff Rodriguez is in his fourth year at the helm of the California High Women’s Varsity basketball program. Coach Jeff’s California high school teams have seen late post season action 2 consecutive seasons, finishing the 2016-2018 campaign with a school high 22-8 record.   Coach Jeff is proud to have groomed two players on the 2017-2018 team to play at the college level (Gabby Edmond ’18, UC Merced commit and Mikaela Bismillah 18’, Chico State commit).

A seasoned basketball veteran with over 20 years of coaching and playing experience, Coach Jeff has an impressive and diverse background. Prior to California High School, Coach Jeff presided as head coach at Will C. Wood high school in Vacaville (many post season visits), served as a college assistant and scout at Dominican college and even served as head JV Coach at California High School.

Reflective of his law enforcement background, Coach Jeff brings a tough no-nonsense approach to coaching basketball.   Team discipline, mental toughness and accountability are hallmarks of Coach Jeff’s teams.   Coach Jeff is a true community asset understanding the importance that sports play in life development. Many of Jeff’s former players are now in law enforcement, medicine, and thriving in college and/or other professional careers. Alumni are frequent visitors to practices and games.

Truly doing this for the love of the game, Coach Jeff has a wonderful wife, Lichen and two young daughters, Mimi and Irene. In addition, Coach Jeff is the proud father of two adult children who are faithfully serving our country and community (Joshua serving in the US Military and Kimberly serving in law enforcement).

 

Doug Vanderhorst – Assistant Varsity Coach

 

Landon Edmond – Assistant Varsity Coach

This is Coach Landon’s fourth season with the Cal High Women’s Varsity program. Under Coach Jeff’s leadership, in addition to game prep, Landon assists with statistics, film and strategic projects/planning.

Coach Landon has vast experience coaching in the AAU circuit (over 15 years) previously was an Assistant Coach at California High School under Cary Wilson with the Men’s Varsity Program (2 Seasons).  Coach Landon played forward/center at the University of South Florida where his team went to the post season twice in back to back seasons (the last season culminating in an NCAA Tournament appearance against an Alonzo Mourning led Georgetown squad, 1992). After USF, Coach Landon had an opportunity to play professionally overseas but chose instead to go to law school.  Landon appreciates what basketball has done for him and enjoys coaching what are ultimately life skills through the metaphor of basketball. “You learn everything you need to succeed in life by playing and mastering the game of basketball.”

Coach Landon’s daughter, Gabriella, is a four-year Cal High Women’s starter committed to play basketball in 2018 at the University of California-Merced.

 

George Pratt – Head Junior Varsity Coach

Coach George Pratt is privileged to be a part of California High Women’s basketball program since 2014. He has worked as an assistant at the JV level and now is the Frosh/Soph Head Coach. His commitment to teach basketball extends throughout the year with spring camps, AAU teams and summer league. With the guidance of Varsity Head Coach, Jeff Rodriguez and an outstanding coaching staff he enjoys the challenge of helping our incoming student athletes adjust to the game at the high school level.

Coach George started coaching basketball in 2008 at St. Joan of Arc and continues to coach there. He is certified to coach CYO sports in the Diocese of Oakland. He is an NFHS Accredited Interscholastic Coach with certificates in Concussion in Sports, First Aid, Fundamentals of Coaching and Coaching Basketball. George has been certified to coach youth soccer; he coached two years in Castro Valley and three years in San Ramon. He also was certified to coach youth football with the city of Danville. George Pratt is a proud graduate of Moreau Catholic High school where he played football for Coach Al Vermeil.

 

Paul Leirmo – Assistant Junior Varsity Coach

Coach Paul Leirmo is in his second season as an assistant coaching the Frosh/Soph team and supporting head coach George Pratt. Coach Paul also spent the last 3 seasons helping with the Cal High Girls Summer basketball program. His main focus at the Frosh/Soph level is skills development to enhance their overall basketball game with an emphasis in getting the girls ready for the next level.

Coach Paul started his coaching career with the local CYO girls program from 2011-2014 taking first place for two consecutive years and winning a championship in 2014 with an undefeated record. Coach Paul has also been coaching AAU basketball for the last 5 years winning multiple tournaments throughout the Bay Area. In addition to basketball, he has also coached Girls softball for 6 years for the San Ramon Girls Athletic League (SRVGAL) taking first place three times in division play and one league championship. He was recognized as Coach of the Year in 2015 by the SRVGAL program.

Coach Paul believes in building strong fundamentals, keeping players focused, optimizing their potential, and emphasizing good sportsmanship. He is an interscholastic coach with certificates in fundamentals of coaching and coaching basketball, concussion in sports, first aid, CPR training, and has had three years of ACE training. Coach Paul is a graduate of Mondovi High School in Mondovi, Wisconsin and proudly served 4 years in the United States Air Force. He is married to his wife Silvia and they have two daughters Sara and Alisa who are currently in the basketball program at Cal High.
